Chvrches cover Kendrick Lamar’s ‘LOVE’ live in session

Chvrches have taken to Triple J’s ‘Like A Version’ studio session to cover Kendrick Lamar track ‘LOVE’.

Lauren Mayberry and Martin Doherty are on the vocals of Lamar and his guest, Zacar. High profile covers are becoming a bit of a Chvrches speciality now, the Scottish band also recently shared covers of Beyonce’s ‘XO’ and the 1975’s ‘Somebody Else’.

The version of ‘LOVE’, taken from Lamar’s 2017 album DAMN, is typically synth heavy with alongside Mayberry’s dreamy vocals.

Recently, Mayberry has said “standing and screaming in someone’s face” when talking about misogyny and sexual misconduct won’t “make anyone change”.

Speaking to Interview Magazine, Mayberry said: “I’ve come to terms with the fact that standing and screaming in someone’s face about how wrong they are is never gonna make anyone change.”

Continuing, Mayberry explained how she felt in the early formation of Chvrches she noticed elements of misogynistic language that would sometimes be used in relation to the group: “When people say stuff to us casually in reviews, if they write about it in a condescending way with really gendered language, that’s not really about me,” she said.

“It used to hurt my feelings more than it does now.

“That’s not about us as a band or me as a person. That’s about how you feel about women, and that’s a societal thing. When people say stuff like that, that’s a domination thing; you feel sad about what’s happening in your life and the state of the world.”
