Christopher Nolan urges fans to buy ‘Oppenheimer’ on Blu-ray rather than stream it

Director Christopher Nolan has criticised streaming services while introducing a screening of his Oppenheimer movie in Los Angeles. The ‘Story of Our Time’ event had been devoted to putting the spotlight on how the film was made.

In the process, Nolan explained that his team had put a lot of effort into making the Blu-ray edition of Oppenheimer Blu-ray with the aim of preserving the movie’s magnificent soundscape, suggesting fans buy it rather than stream the film online.

“Obviously, Oppenheimer has been quite a ride for us, and now it is time for me to release a home version of the film. I’ve been working very hard on it for months,” Nolan said. “I’m known for my love of theatrical and put my whole life into that, but the truth is, the way the film goes out at home is equally important.”

Nolan then explained how Blu-ray is an important part of his filmography, noting, “The Dark Knight was one of the first films where we formatted it especially for Blu-ray release because it was a new form at the time.”

Discussing Oppenheimer in particular, the director continued, “We put a lot of care and attention into the Blu-ray version… and trying to translate the photography and the sound, putting that into the digital realm with a version you can buy and own at home and put on a shelf so no evil streaming service can come steal it from you.”

In a four-star review of Oppenheimer, Far Out wrote: “With Oppenheimer, Nolan hasn’t just delivered an entertaining, thought-provoking movie as he had done with his previous efforts, but a thoroughly important one that informs even the most sheltered of us about the global situation we find ourselves in today.”
