Christopher Nolan denies his involvement in the new James Bond movie
The celebrated British filmmaker Christopher Nolan has counted himself out of directing the forthcoming James Bond movie.
Despite nothing having yet been revealed about the 28th movie in the long-running James Bond franchise, with an actor still to be cast in the competitive role, Nolan had stated in an interview that he would not be taking part in the forthcoming project. This comes after years of speculation that the filmmaker would sit in the director’s chair for the new movie after having long admired the franchise.
In an interview with the Associated Press, when asked whether his next project was the new 007 film, Nolan responded, “No, sadly no…No truth to those rumours, but I’m very thrilled the strike is over and we can all get back to work”.
Just earlier this year, Nolan said he would love to one day take on a James Bond project, “The influence of those movies in my filmography is embarrassingly apparent…It would be an amazing privilege to do one”.
Despite his enthusiasm, the director added: “At the same time, when you take on a character like that you’re working with a particular set of constraints…You wouldn’t want to take on a film without being fully committed to what you bring to the table creatively. So as a writer, casting, everything — it’s a full package”.
The director is certainly capable of taking on the massive Sony franchise, having a track record of successful large-scale blockbusters, including Inception, Interstellar and the Dark Knight trilogy. His 2020 release, Tenet, is the most closely associated with the James Bond franchise, telling a globe-hopping story that deals with bombastic action scenes and wild gadgets.
