American actress Christina Applegate has established herself as one of the biggest names in Hollywood. Starting her career as a child star, Applegate maintained a successful run in films and television as an adult as well. She is the recipient of multiple coveted awards, including an Emmy as well as bids for Golden Globes and a Tony Award nomination.
Very recently, Applegate took to Twitter to provide her fans with an update about her health. As a part of her social media announcement, Applegate revealed that she had been struggling with a serious condition called Multiple Sclerosis for several months now but she had not disclosed it.
Multiple Sclerosis causes damage in the brain and spinal cord of the patient, resulting in cognitive disruptions, depression, anxiety and loss of vision as well as limb movement among other symptoms. Although the condition is treatable, it reduces the life expectancy of those who are affected by five to ten years when compared to the average population.
This is not the first time that Applegate is dealing with something of this magnitude since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Applegate inherited the genetic trait from her mother who is also a breast cancer survivor. Due to the detection of the cancer in its early stages, Applegate was declared to be cancer-free after undergoing a double mastectomy.
“Hi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some asshole blocks it,” Applegate wrote on Twitter.
Adding: “As one of my friends that has MS said ‘We wake up and take the indicated action.’ And that’s what I do. So now I ask for privacy. As I go through this thing.”
