Chris Pratt defends wife’s cousin RFK Jr: “I love him”
Chris Pratt has defended the US Secretary of State for Health and Human Services, RFK Jr, who also happens to be his wife’s cousin, as he says, despite the politician’s controversial policies, “I love him”.
The actor was speaking during a recent appearance on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, in which he discussed his connection to the Donald Trump ally through his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger, whom he married in 2019.
Pratt explained: “I’ve spent a number of occasions hanging with him [in a] strictly family dinner kind of vibe. I really got along with him well and think he’s great. He’s funny, he’s wonderful. I love him.”
However, he noted that there was a distinct difference between him getting on with RFK Jr in a personal capacity, compared to his stance on politics. “When you jump on the bandwagon with the most divisive president ever, it makes sense that you’re going to be made to look terrible,” Pratt said.
Despite this, the actor noted “in politics, you inherit enemies”, before insisting that he wouldn’t let a difference of opinion interfere in their family life, saying of his questionable policies: “It’s not like I say to Bobby, ‘Let’s talk about this’ while we’re playing cards or having fun or having dinner.”
Pratt added, “I’m not going to pick his brain to find out exactly which of those things are true. I just assume that none of them are? For the most part, I wish him well.”
He then pointed out some of what he claimed were “amazing” proposals from RFK Jr, such as the ‘Make America Healthy’ campaign, which is targeting ultra-processed foods and dyes which Pratt said were “dangerous to our children’s health and development.”
