Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor in new ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ trailer

Marvel has shared the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, which sees Chris Hemsworth return as Thor.

The teaser also sees the return of Thor’s adopted daughter, Love, who is played in Avengers: Doomsday by Hemsworth’s real-life daughter, India Rose Hemsworth.

The short clip sees Thor pleading for help on his knees from his father, Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins, desperately saying, “Father, all my life I’ve answered every call, to honour, duty, to war.”

He continues, “But now fate has given me something I never sought: a child, a life untouched by the storm. Lend me the strength of the All Fathers so that I may fight once more, defeat one more enemy, and return home to her and not as a warrior but as warmth, to teach her not battle but stillness, the kind I never knew.”

The speech from Thor concludes with him saying, “Please, father. Hear my words.”

The trailer wraps up with the following message on the screen: “Thor will return in Avengers: Doomsday“, and a countdown clock to the film’s release in cinemas on December 18th, 2026.

While the teaser has now been officially released, it has been shown in screenings for James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash over the past week, subsequently leaking online. It is the second teaser to be shown during Avatar: Fire and Ash, following another starring Chris Evans as Steve Rogers.

More returning characters set to feature in Avengers: Doomsday include Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man.

Notably, Robert Downey Jr is set to make his grand return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom, which was announced at Comic Con in 2024.

Avengers: Doomsday is set for worldwide release in cinemas on December 18th, 2026.
