Chris Evans names one of his most underrated film: “I love that movie”

It’s difficult to look beyond American actor Chris Evans as being one of the centre points of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, he gained recognition when he portrayed the Human Torch in the 2005 film Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer before going on to his best-known role in another massive franchise.

After performing in the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America in several different Marvel movies, including Captain America: The First Avenger and Avengers: Endgame, Evans forever associated himself with playing superheroes, even if it’s a part of his career that he wished wasn’t at the forefront of audience’s minds when they think of him.

After all, Evans has indeed contributed to a number of productions that don’t fall into the superhero or comic book bracket. Take, for instance, his efforts in Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer or Rian Johnson’s Knives Out. There’s also one film in particular that Evans wishes more people had seen and recognised him for.

“I love Sunshine,” the actor once said, referring to the Danny Boyle science fiction movie of 2007. “More people should see that. Like ten people saw it. All my good movies, nobody sees. Everybody goes and sees Fantastic Four, but nobody sees Sunshine. I’d have a different career if people saw that.”

“I love that movie, man,” Evans reiterated. “I love Danny Boyle. I love that experience, and I love that cast. That was one of those movies, top to bottom, I’m just in love with.” The science fiction psychological thriller directed by Boyle and written by Alex Garland stars Cillian Murphy, Rose Byrne, Michelle Yeoh and Mark Strong alongside Evans.

It tells of a group of astronauts who set out on a deadly mission to reignite the dying sun in the year 2057. Evidently, Evans feels that his career has been dominated by his Marvel appearances and that his other more significant artistic efforts, like Sunshine, have been neglected somewhat. In the same interview, he noted, “It’s part of the territory. You know, it’s not like… I don’t mind it.”

Evans added: “It’s part of my career. It’s part of my story, and that’s fine. Doing movies like Captain America allows me to do movies like this. You go and do those big-budget films so that you can go and do something that you’re really passionate about.”
