Chloë Sevigny issues apology for photos with Marilyn Manson: “I’m truly sorry”
Actor Chloë Sevigny has apologised to fans for sharing photos with Marilyn Manson on social media.
The photos were taken at the Emmy Toast Party, which took place on September 12th, ahead of the Emmy Awards at the Peacock Theater on September 14th.
Sevigny was nominated in the ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited or Anthology Series Or Movie’ category at the Emmys for Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story, which was awarded to Erin Doherty for her performance in the Netflix series.
Manson was at the Emmy Toast Party with director Jonas Åkerlund. In the series of photos uploaded to Instagram Stories by Sevigny, he can be seen with his arm around her, and in another, she was pictured licking the singer’s neck.
In the comments section of her most recent post, which is filled with criticism, one fan wrote, “Why? Just why? You don’t need Manson by your side that’s gross.”
In response to the comment above, Sevigny wrote (per Stereogum): “I’m truly sorry — you’re absolutely right. We unexpectedly ran into MM and Jonas in the lobby of a hotel. We’re both fans of Jonas as both a musician and a filmmaker, and in the moment, I wasn’t thinking clearly. I’d had too much to drink and didn’t consider how inappropriate or hurtful it might be to be photographed with MM. I deeply regret the lapse in judgment.”
In January, prosecutors in California dropped an investigation into Manson, real name Brian Warner, following a series of sexual assault and domestic violence allegations. Warner, who was never charged, strongly denied the accusations through his legal team, labelling the claims as “falsehoods”.
Additionally, in June, Green Party MP Siân Berry successfully lobbied Brighton and Hove City Council to cancel Manson’s upcoming performance at the Brighton Centre, which will no longer be going ahead.
