Charlize Theron is confirmed for Christopher Nolan’s new movie
Charlize Theron is the latest actor to join the cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film. The Academy Award-winning actor will star alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o and Robert Pattinson.
This will be Nolan’s first film since the success of Oppenheimer, with Universal announcing that production will begin in early 2025, with a theatrical release on July 17th, 2026, including an IMAX release. No plot details have been released, and it is unsure when the official story will be announced.
Theron and Nolan have not yet collaborated on a project, despite the fact that Theron has worked with the same studio on the action-thriller Atomic Blonde, the Snow White and the Huntsman series, A Million Ways to Die in the West and as the villain in the Fast and Furious franchise, which includes the recently released Fast X.
Besides her work with Universal Studio, the South African actor is perhaps most praised for her Oscar-winning performance in Monster, as well as the 2019 film Bombshell and the Mad Max franchise. Theron is also recognised for her work as a producer, acting as an executive on David Fincher’s hit television series Mindhunter, as well as producing some of the projects she has starred in, such as Tully and Bombshell. The actor has many new projects in the pipeline, with a sequel to The Old Guard being released by Netflix shortly, as well as an original heist movie with Apple TV called Two for the Money.
Nolan’s previous films have had similar summer release dates, with his last film Oppenheimer, famously aligning with the release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which took the internet by storm and created the infamous Barbenheimer weekend, which box office records and sales.
Nolan is known for his high-concept stories such as Inception, Memento and Interstellar, which have defined the director as one of the greatest commercial filmmakers working today. Oppenheimer followed the story of J Robert Oppenheimer and his role in the creation of the atomic bomb during WW2. Cillian Murphy reprised the role of this historical figure, with Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh and Matt Damon also starring in the film. The film swept at the Academy Awards that year, winning for ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Director’, with Downey Jr also winning his first Oscar for ‘Best Supporting Actor’.
After it was announced that Tom Holland would star in his next film, many people eagerly awaited more details on the story, with a huge fan base that will no doubt fill as many seats in cinemas as his previous films.
