Charli XCX unveils ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ self-directed companion movie
Charli XCX has released a self-directed black-and-white film as a visual companion piece to her latest album, Music, Fashion, Film.
On July 24th, the film, titled Charli XCX presents Music, Fashion, Film, was released alongside her long-awaited seventh studio album. It includes visuals for all 11 tracks, as well as behind-the-scenes footage and a personal introduction from the star herself.
“Hey, it’s me. Charli,” she begins. “Thank you all so much for being here. I’m really grateful that you came, and I can’t wait for you to hear my new album, Music, Fashion, Film.”
After the official introduction, Charli’s voiceover explains the album title. “I love music and I love fashion and I love film, and it’s not like I’m an expert in any of those fields… It’s more just that they’re so intrinsically what my life is about,” she muses.
In the film, fans are treated to behind-the-scenes footage captured in Paris and London, as well as content from studio sessions, where the Essex star worked closely with AG Cook and Finn Keane.
The new film isn’t a surprising move for the star, who has been recently pivoting to the world of film. After making the soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, the 33-year-old has since appeared in 2025’s Erupcja and 100 Nights of Hero.
Elsewhere, Charli confessed that she almost called the last song on the record, her collaboration with filmmaker David Cronenberg, ‘Brat’.
Speaking on Tape Notes, the star admitted, “We had this conversation about wanting to do one very long song at the end of the album. And then there was a moment when we were like… ‘Should we call it ‘Brat’?’ Do you remember this?”
Far Out gave the star’s latest album a two-star review, observing, “There’s wry self-awareness, but that shouldn’t be mistaken for substance. Just as the ‘rock’ amid the rave shouldn’t be mistaken for reinvention. If you’re a teenager discovering this aesthetic for the first time, then you might find it thrilling.”
