Chappell Roan to perform at Elton John’s Oscars party

Pop star Chappell Roan has been announced as a performer at Elton John’s prestigious annual AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party this year, in celebration of the 97th Oscars award ceremony on March 2nd, 2025.

The party, which John has been organising since 1992 in support of the AIDS Foundation’s efforts to eradicate the spread of HIV, is an invite-only event scheduled to coincide with the biggest night in Hollywood and of the awards season. John will host the event alongside his partner and filmmaker David Furnish.

Co-hosting the celebrations will be a selection of award-winning actors, including Jean Smart, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka.

Speaking on the decision to invite Roan to be the main performer at the party, John stated on behalf of himself and his partner: “David and I are thrilled to gather with friends and supporters once again, and we’re honored to welcome the bold and authentic Chappell Roan as this year’s performer, whose artistry embodies the power of music to inspire change.”

Continuing to speak about the evening’s aims and the organisation’s collective goals, John said: “Music has always been a force for change, uniting communities, raising awareness, and inspiring hope in the fight against AIDS. Today, as AIDS still claims a life every minute, that spirit fuels our mission to end the epidemic by standing against stigma and ensuring equal access to care.”

Roan enjoyed a spectacular 2024, with her album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, dominating the conversation in the pop sphere, and landing her nominations for Grammy Awards in six categories. She has also recently been announced as a headliner for several festivals throughout 2025, such as the Reading and Leeds Festival, and Primavera Sound in Barcelona.

The 26-year-old artist has also been noted for her support and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, speaking candidly on the subject from both a personal perspective and championing marginalised voices from within the community to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues.
