Chaka Khan announces her retirement from touring

Whilst many musicians would rather stay on the road until their final days, 70-year-old Chaka Khan has decided to call it quits.

The funk icon recently revealed she has no plans to return to touring, and indicated she wants to spend more time at home. In the new interview, Khan also drew a line between herself and the artists who love to spend life on the road. She highlighted a clear distinction between the two, which means she is content with a quiet life and playing dates spread out rather than gigging on the road constantly.

While speaking to Rolling Stone, Khan said: “Some people, that’s all they have, you know? I got this rich-ass life. I’ve got great-grandchildren I want to get to know better. So I will not do another tour. I’ll do dates, but it won’t look like a tour. They’ll be far enough apart that I can have time to sleep in between.”

Khan has a blasé approach towards definitive retirement and her legacy. “I might do that three of four times, like other bitches do…” she said.

“I would hope that some of my shit has some longevity, but if it doesn’t, that’ll be because hopefully somebody better has come along. I just hope that the art form doesn’t get so screwed up with stupid shit – kids today think that every instrument can be played on a keyboard. Instruments have to be introduced once again to these kids.”

Khan still has a few more tour dates to honour before her official abstain from life on the road takes effect. After that, there may still be chances to see her live, they will just be much more few and far between than they were before.
