Cate Le Bon has announced a new album, Reward, which is due out May 24th through her new label Mexican Summer.
The new record, which follows 2016 effort Crab Day which came out through Turnstile / Drag City, is Le Bon’s fifth solo record to date and is inspired from a year of solitary living in the Lake District.
Spending her days working on building furniture from scratch, Le Bon then resided to her old Meers piano by the evening and, as she explained it, “going a little bit crazy and playing the piano to [herself] and singing into the night.”
To coincide with the album news, Le Bon has shared the album’s lead single ‘Daylight Matters’.
“People hear the word ‘reward’ and they think that it’s a positive word, and to me it’s quite a sinister word in that it depends on the relationship between the giver and the receiver,” Le Bon said in a statement. “I feel like it’s really indicative of the times we’re living in where words are used as slogans, and everything is slowly losing its meaning.”
