Cass McCombs’ ninth full-length album, Tip of the Sphere will be released 8 February 2019 on ANTI- Records. Following the album’s lead single, ‘Sleeping Volcanoes’ and follow up track ‘Estrella’, Mccombs has today shared the video for new single ‘The Great Pixley Train Robbery’.
The video is actually more of a visualiser for the track which tells the tale of a violent train robbery. The song is based off an old newspaper clipping from the 1800s that McCombs found and then allowed to spark his imagination, highlighting his incredible talent for storytelling.
The album, Tip of the Sphere will be McCombs first since 2016’s Mangy Love, an LP which saw him reach brand new heights, and will likely go on to confirm his status as cult-hero and narrator-extraordinaire. It shows with each release that McCombs took a different approach on this record.
Moving away from isolating himself and taking time to create, he instead forced himself into the studio in Brooklyn and purposefully and swiftly delivered his ninth record. Due to this insistance McCombs work has a fresh new brightness and intensity to his work.
