
Cannes 2025: Molly Manning Walker announced as President of the Un Certain Regard jury
The British director, writer and cinematographer Molly Manning Walker has been announced as the President of the Un Certain Regard ury at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
The filmmaker will be joined by French-Swiss filmmaker Louise Courvoisier, director of the Rotterdam International Film Festival Vanya Kaludjercic, Italian filmmaker Roberto Minervini, and Argentinian actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart. Together, the jury will award prizes within the prestigious Un Certain Regard category, a section of the festival that showcases work from emerging auteurs and filmmakers.
Molly Manning Walker’s debut feature film as a director, How to Have Sex, won the top award within this category in 2023. The film follows three teenage girls on a rite of passage clubbing holiday experience. Before then, Walker was a cinematographer on films such as Scrapper and Blue Weekend.
For this year’s festival, 20 films have been selected to compete within this category, with nine of them being debut feature films. In 2024, the Un Certain Regard prize was awarded to Guan Hu and his feature film Black Dog.
This year, Tunisian director Erige Sehiri’s will open the category with his feature film Promised Sky, which will premiere on May 14th.
In a press statement released by the festival, Walker said, “It’s such an honour to return to Cannes as the President of the Un Certain Regard Jury. This selection will forever hold a special place in my heart. Being a part of it really changed my world. I can’t wait to discover the films at the epicentre of new cinema. Right now more than ever I feel that cinema is so key to bringing us together and allowing us to feel, to connect with each other.”
Walker continued: “To escape, wonder and learn about each other. I’m excited to go on this journey with the other Jury members as I know it will be one hell of an adventure escaping into these filmmakers worlds.”
