C Turtle share new single ‘Melvin Said This’

London rockers C Turtle have released their latest single, ‘Melvin Said This’, heightening excitement ahead a significant year for the band.

A cacophonous piece of alternative rock, stylistically, it points to the underground scene of the 1980s that the band explicitly covet, with the noisy guitars, dovetailing vocals of Cole Flynn Quirke and Mimi McVeigh, and blazing synth line coalescing to establish one of the quartet’s most energetic offerings yet. ‘Melvin Said This’ again highlights why their forthcoming album Expensive Thrills is a title many music fans have underlined in their diary.

Of the new track, Quirke explains: “Melvin is the outcome of us trying to blend our twee indie rock influences like The Clean and the Vaselines with more dissonant rock and roll like Brainiac. It’s probably the rockiest and fastest song on the album and we all love playing it live the most out of any tracks on the record.”

The band’s second album, Expensive Thrills, will arrive on March 8th via Blitzcat Records. The group have already released a string of singles from it, including ‘Shake It Down’ and ‘Have You Ever Heard a Turtle Sing?’

C Turtle originated as Quirke’s solo project but soon expanded to a collaborative outfit after he met Mimi McVeigh on a shoot. After experimenting with home demos, she joined the band as his fellow vocalist and guitarist, with their pair bonding over shared passions such as Sonic Youth and the cult Taiwanese film A Brighter Summer Day. The line-up was then completed when bassist Finlay Burrows and drummer Jimmy Guvercin entered the fold.

As the group gears up for the release of their hotly anticipated album, they also have several live dates already in the calendar. On March 10th, they play Brighton’s Green Door Store and London’s Corsica Studios on the 14th. Then, for summer, they will play Dot to Dot Festival on May 25th and 26th before taking the stage at Ipswich’s Brighten The Corners Festival on June 15th.
