The self-described denim rockers, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, have released the video for their track ‘New Age Millennium Magic’, their first new single of the year.
Combining the throwback rock and roll sound of The Darkness with the tongue in cheek antics of… The Darkness, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard are one of those super fun, goofy, “serious but not so serious that we can’t make fun of ourselves” type of groups. Armed with unsubtle song titles like ‘John Lennon Is My Jesus Christ’ and ‘Sugarloaf Mountain Crucify Me’, the lads from Cardiff always sound like they’re taking the piss and having a great time doing it. Find me another band stupid/smart enough to rhyme “sun” with “cinnabun”.
“Seeing Gen-Z’ers quitting school and actually influencing real change in place of me theorising whether Engels would have put his recycling out really brought into focus how fickle millennials (including myself) really are,” frontman Tom Rees explains. “I take absolute delight in lecturing a table of half-cut peers on the failures of capitalism, but little do they know my grab bag of 250 plastic guitar picks are already priming their way down the A470 straight to my door in the hands of an underpaid delivery driver with eyes like pissholes in fake snow.”
See, cheeky aren’t they? Nothing is better for rock and roll as a genre than a little self-effacing amusement, and boy do the boys sound amused with themselves here. “Half the world is drying it’s already begun/But I can shower for hours it’s just so much fun”. There might be some serious issues to suss through, but when you’re just as complicit as the next guy, you might as well take on a facetious attitude to it all. Play the clown and reflect the absurdity of it all. Fantastic. This is the magic for me too.
