Busted’s James Bourne plans to undergo “major surgery that should extend my life”
Busted’s James Bourne has issued a health update after missing the band’s last tour due to an undisclosed problem.
Taking to Instagram Stories on April 4th, Bourne shared an update with his fans for the first time in six months after sitting out of their UK arena tour in late 2025.
He shared with his followers, “I realise it’s been about six months since I posted last. I have a plan in place to have a major surgery that should extend my life.”
Bourne did not detail the specifics of his health issues, but did share his hope that it will allow him to return to the stage in the future.
The English musician stated that it will “hopefully allow me to come back to what I love most which is touring and making music.”
His message concluded, “It really sucks to be out of the game. But there is hope!”
For their last tour, his brother, Chris Bourne, deputised for him in Busted after Bourne was forced to pull out of the shows on the day before the run of dates began.
In his original statement, Bourne explained, “There’s a lot of information I still don’t have about my condition but my bandmates, management and I are unanimous in deciding that I should focus on medical stuff for now.”
He also stated his hopes to return to Busted in the future, adding, “I really hope I can be in a position to come back further down the line. It’s still going to be an amazing show and I will miss being there!”
During their show at the OVO Wembley Arena, his bandmates honoured Bourne with singer Charlie Simpson explaining that he “is really fucking sick”, before revealing that he told them to do the tour without him rather than cancel.
