Bruce Springsteen lauds Stephen Graham’s “otherworldly” performance in ‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’
Bruce Springsteen has claimed that Stephen Graham’s performance as his father in the upcoming biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere is “a little otherworldly” to watch.
‘The Boss’ told The Sunday Times in a recent interview that the actor’s portrayal of his dad, Douglas ‘Dutch’ Springsteen, was “a little otherworldly, and also quite touching,” in light of the various mental health struggles he faced throughout his life, until he passed away in 1998.
Regarding other details about the film, Springsteen remained elusive in the interview, but has previously spoken of its emotional impact, as it stars Jeremy Allen White in the lead role, depicting the making and release of his 1982 album Nebraska.
He told Rolling Stone last week: “I mean, there’s some unusualness to it because the movie involves, in some ways, some of the most painful days of my life.”
Springsteen noted that he would avoid the set on certain days of the schedule, explaining, “If there was a scene coming up that was sometimes really deeply personal, I wanted the actors to feel completely free, and I didn’t want to get in the way, and so I would just stay at home.”
Alongside Graham and White, Deliver Me From Nowhere also stars Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, and Odessa Young, who round out the leading cast.
Ahead of the release of the biopic, however, Springsteen is currently undertaking a summer tour of the UK and Europe, where he recently performed in Manchester and Liverpool, before his next stop on the road in San Sebastian, Spain on June 24th.
Deliver Me From Nowhere, the trailer for which was released last week, will hit cinemas on October 24th.
