‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’: Bruce Springsteen praises Jeremy Allen White’s “very intuitive performance”
Jeremy Allen White and Bruce Springsteen joined Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night talk show to discuss the upcoming biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere.
The upcoming biopic is based on Warren Zanes’ 2023 book of the same name. Deliver Me From Nowhere tells the story of how Springsteen hibernated in isolation to produce his 1982 masterpiece, Nebraska, while grappling emotionally with his position on the brink of superstardom. In it, The Bear actor plays the iconic American musician.
Recently, a clip showing White singing ‘Born to Run’ was released, and White’s vocal performance was praised online. Springsteen spoke of the same clip, joking, “When I saw that clip, I thought, gee, when did I get that good looking?” before admitting it was “strange” to see White playing him “the first couple times” he watched the film.
However, “he captured what I do particularly on stage, which was pretty amazing, and the singing was so good. It was a lot of fun.”
When Kimmel commented that “the essence of you is really in [White’s acting],” Springsteen agreed.
He added, “He approached the part really in his own way, and I think one of the choices he made was it is not imitated, he caught the psychological aspect of the character and it’s a performance that comes from the inside out.”
The ‘Born in the USA’ singer then deemed it a “very intuitive performance, and that’s what makes the whole film work.”
Springsteen then revealed he felt “a little guilty” about being on set while White was singing, as “here’s the guy not only trying to play me, but he’s got to play me while my stupid ass is sitting in the chair.” White retaliated, admitting he felt nervous in the first week but then began to see Springsteen’s “presence as permission”.
Deliver Me From Nowhere is set for cinematic release on October 24th, 2025.
