Bruce Springsteen set to perform at Patti Smith tribute concert

Ahead of the Patti Smith tribute concert to be held at New York City’s prestigious Carnegie Hall on March 26th, Bruce Springsteen has now joined the bill for the show.

People Have The Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith is the latest in Carnegie Hall’s series of benefit concerts, where 100 per cent of net ticket proceeds will go to funding music education for underprivileged youth.

It will be held only a stone’s throw away from the spot where Smith first emerged in the punk and poetry scene, this concert will celebrate her impact with performances of tracks from across her career.

The original billing featured Courtney Barnett, Matt Berninger of The National, Kim Gordon and Bill Nace, Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, Michael Stipe, Karen O, Ben Harper, Kronos Quartet, and The Kills’ Alison Mosshart.

Those musicians will also be backed up by a strong house band, including The Rolling Stones’ touring drummer Steve Jordan, Red Hot Chill Peppers bassist Flea, and Smith’s own longtime band member Tony Shanahan.

But now, another name has been added last minute— The Boss will now reportedly be in attendance. As a late-stage addition, Bruce Springsteen is set to be there to honour Smith’s work. It’s a fitting performer given that together, they provided her biggest hit, ‘Because The Night’, which was initially written by Springsteen but finished and released by Smith when he couldn’t figure the song out.

Consequence first reported the news, but there is no further information about Springsteen’s role in the show or what he might perform. There is also still no information on whether Smith herself will perform or even make an appearance.
