Bruce Springsteen hits out at Donald Trump and endorses Kamala Harris

Rock legend Bruce Springsteen has shared his thoughts on the upcoming presidential election on November 5th, expressing his support for Kamala Harris and his staunch opposition to Donald Trump.

Ahead of the election, which takes in just over a month, several artists have shared their support for presidential nominee Harris. Springsteen is the latest to acknowledge his support for the Democratic candidate.

The ‘Born in the U.S.A’ singer took to Instagram to detail his thoughts on the election, acknowledging that “friends, fans and the press” had been asking him who he planned on supporting. “I’m supporting Kamala Harris for president, and Tim Walz for vice-president,” Springsteen clarified, “and opposing Donald Trump and JD Vance.”

“Here’s why,” he continued, “We are shortly coming upon one of the most consequential elections in our nation’s history.” The singer theorised that the United States hasn’t been this “politically, spiritually and emotionally” divided since the Civil War, but shared his hopes that this could change under Harris’ leadership.

“Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are committed to a vision of this country that respects and includes everyone,” he stated, “regardless of class, religion, race, your political point of view or sexual identity, and they want to grow our economy in a way that benefits all, not just the few, like me, on top.”

“That’s the vision of America I’ve been consistently writing about for 55 years,” Springsteen added. Meanwhile, he called Trump the “most dangerous” presidential candidate of his lifetime, suggesting he should be disqualified from the race for his attitudes towards the Constitution, democracy, the rule of law and the peaceful transfer of power.

“He doesn’t understand the meaning of this country,” Springsteen declared, “its history, or what it means to be deeply American.”

Walz has since responded to Springsteen’s video, thanking the musician for his support of their campaign, “Wow. As a lifelong fan of The Boss, I couldn’t be more honored to have his support.”

Which musicians have endorsed Kamala Harris?

Springsteen isn’t the only artist who has shared his support for Kamala Harris ahead of next month’s election. Back in August, rockers Foo Fighters endorsed the Democratic candidate after Trump used their song ‘My Hero’ during one of his rallies. The Dave Grohl-fronted band stated that they would be donating all royalties from the signature track to the campaign.

Folk legend Joan Baez has also expressed her support for the Democratic party in this election. Earlier in the year, she covered ‘America the Beautiful’ by Katharine Lee Bates on-stage and changed the lyrics to endorse Harris. Instead of singing “Crown thy good with brotherhood,” she sang, “Crown thy good with sisterhood,” and urged her followers to “VOTE BLUE” on social media.

Other supporters of Harris include Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift, who shared on Instagram, “I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” Swift received huge support from the musical community following her endorsement, including from Stevie Nicks, who subsequently joined her in backing Harris.
