Bruce Dickinson hits out at “bunch of posers” in the crowd at Power Trip
Power Trip festival was three days of classic rock and legendary heavy metal set in the middle of the California desert. It promised to be an unmissable experience for fans as ACDC, Iron Maiden, and Guns N’ Roses all headlined.
Ozzy Osbourne was supposed to appear but had to pull out prior for health reasons. In a statement, he said, “As painful as this is, I’ve had to make the decision to bow out of performing on Power Trip in October. My original plan was to return to the stage in the summer of 2024, and when the offer to do this show came in, I optimistically moved forward.”
As devastated as fans were by the news, Ozzy was replaced by Judas Priest, which promised to be a thrilling show given the lawbreakers have been touring the world with Def Leppard for the better part of a year.
However, the lead singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, recently claimed the festival was a strange affair. He spoke to Brazil’s 92.5 Kiss FM and commented on what it was like for the band to be the first to take to the stage over the weekend.
While they could play a proper Iron Maiden show, Dickinson raised issues with the structure of the festival and the ticket prices. “People had been standing out in the heat all day,” he said, “there was no support band. Completely cold, go on stage. Well, cold as in no-warm-up. But, no, I think we sounded pretty good.”
One concern he raised is slowly becoming the mantra of all music fans as ticket prices are simply becoming too much to allow proper music lovers to go to the gigs they want to go to. “People who should be down the front of the stage, because the tickets for the festival were so expensive, they were at the back, and the people who were at the front were just like rich people that wanted to film everything on their phone.”
“Go take a look at some real rock and roll fans,” he continued, “not a bunch of posers who wanna go down the front. ‘I paid 3000 dollars for my ticket. Look at me.’ Fuck off.”
In video footage of the gig, Dickinson is seen running to the front of the stage and mockingly pretending to film them with a phone. He sticks his tongue out and looks gormless in doing so, making his opinion pretty clear.
