‘Broad City’ finale screening brings SXSW to tears
Broad City, the hit stoner sitcom created by and starring Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, reduced SXSW Festival to tears as they brought the show to an end.
On Sunday afternoon, an endless stream of SXSW festivalgoers charged toward the Zach Theatre as the final three episodes of the fifth and last ever season of the show were premiered.
SXSW Director of Film, Janet Pierson, informed the audience ahead of the show that no spoilers should seep out of the premiere, but it has proven too difficult to keep the emotion of the event behind closed doors. With a post-screening Q&A with both Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, the duo couldn’t hold back their sense of pride for the creation as tears began to flow in the crowd.
“The show in its own has been the defining thing in my life thus far,” Jacobson said. “I feel privileged and lucky to have been able to share so much of myself and of my friendship with Ilana with all of you.”
“It would be strangling to hold on to this beautiful, spontaneous world and these characters. We tried to capture something, and we did it,” Glazer added.
