Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes suffers mild concussion after fan throws phone at his head

Bring Me The Horizon singer Oli Sykes has confirmed he suffered a mild concussion due to an audience member hitting him in the head with their phone.

The Sheffield band are currently embarked upon a North American arena tour with the unwelcomed incident occurring at the Enterprise Center in St Louis, Missouri, on May 11th.

In footage that has since emerged on social media of the incident, Sykes can be seen being hit in the head by the object, before responding, “Who the fuck just threw a phone at my fuckin’ head?”

He added, “You fucking tosser.”

Sykes was hit with the phone during the fourth song of the set, ‘Happy Song’, but duly continued to complete the full performance, even if it was a struggle for the frontman.

Addressing the incident, he took to Instagram Stories to write, “Alright everyone – just wanted to let you know I’m all good. The phone to the head definitely smarted and I ended up with a mild concussion, but the swelling’s gone down a decent amount already.”

He then apologised to fans for his performance, admitting, “Last night I was struggling a bit on stage afterwards because singing was putting a lot of pressure on the wound, and making things feel a bit disorientating while performing, so I’m sorry on my part for what may of seemed like a half-hearted performance.”

Sykes concluded, “Appreciate everyone checking in and worrying about me though. Everything should be fine for tonight’s gig.”

It’s not only Sykes who has recently been hit with an object from a fan, last week, but Eric Clapton was also hit with a vinyl record to the chest at the Movistar Arena in Madrid, causing him to not return to the stage for an encore.

Despite the mild concussion, Bring Me The Horizon continued rocking last night in Kansas City with their tour reaching St Paul tonight (May 13th).

Next month, Bring Me The Horizon return to Europe for festival season, including dates in Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Finland, France, Belgium, Austria, and Czechia.

Their lone UK dates will see them perform their debut album, Count Your Blessings, in full at Outbreak Festival in Manchester on July 10th and 11th.
