Brian Eno has released a surprise new album, ‘Aurum’

Three years after his previous album, FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE, Brian Eno released a new record exclusive to Apple Music entitled Aurum.

The album emerged on the streaming service last night (March 20th) and is almost one hour and 20 minutes long. Due to its use of spatial audio technology, which the music streamer exclusively boasts, it will only be available to listen to on Apple Music.

Eno began his career as a musician in the 1970s, joining Roxy Music before releasing his debut solo album, Here Come The Warm Jets, which included contributions from many famous artists like King Crimson’s Robert Fripp and Hawkwind’s Simon King.

However, it’s Eno’s work as a pioneer of the ambient genre that has cemented his place in music history, earning significant acclaim with albums like Ambient 1: Music for Airports and Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks.

Aurum is Eno’s 30th solo album, and to coincide with its release, Eno has been interviewed by Zane Lowe for Apple Music, where he discusses the beginning of his career and his thoughts on AI.

He explains: “The biggest problem for me about AI is not intrinsic to AI. It’s to do with the fact that it’s owned by the same few people, and I have less and less interest in what those people think, and more and more criticisms of what the effect of their work has been.”

The musician also adds, “Talking about AI itself, I’ve always been happy to welcome new technologies and to see what you could do with them that nobody else thought of doing with them, and what things they could do, other than those that they were designed for, because with all music technology, it’s always very interesting that stuff is designed for one reason, and then people start to find new things they could do that are completely beyond what the designer was thinking about.”
