Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 movie receives official title and release date

The highly-anticipated movie that sees Brad Pitt portray a Formula 1 driver has been titled F1 and is set to arrive in cinemas during the summer of 2025.

Last year, Pitt was spotted filming for the movie during the weekend of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, and ahead of the weekend of racing which lies ahead, he has returned to Northamptonshire to shoot more material for F1. Due to the strikes across Hollywood in 2023, production on the movie was halted, which explains the elongated process.

In the movie, Pitt plays former driver Sonny Hayes, who had to retire after suffering a severe crash. Decades after leaving the sport behind, Hayes makes an unlikely return to the grid. F1 also stars Damson Idris as Pitt’s teammate on the fictional racing team, APXGP. Other cast members include Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Samson Kayo and Kim Bodnia.

As of yet, there is still no trailer for the upcoming film, however, a teaser will be premiered at the British Grand Prix on July 7th. F1 has also been given the tentative release date of June 25th, 2025, across the globe and June 27th, 2025, in America.

While the wait continues for the first glimpse of the movie, the rights to F1 have already been purchased by Apple for £125m.

“I’m a little giddy right now, I’ve got to say,” Pitt said in 2023 at the Silverstone Grand Prix in the United Kingdom with Sky Sports.

Explaining more insight into the movie and his character, Pitt added, “His friend, played by Javier Bardem, is a team owner. They’re a last-placed owner, 21, 22 on the grid. They’ve never scored a point. They have a young phenom played by Damson Idris. He brings me in as a kind of Hail Mary, and hijinks ensue.”

Pitt also revealed how participating in the project provided him with an increased sense of respect for those involved in the sport, stating, “Tell you what’s amazing about it. You’ll see the cameras mounted all over the car. You’ve never seen speed, you’ve never seen the G-forces like this. It’s really amazing.”

To provide authenticity to the movie, Lewis Hamilton was recruited as a producer and try to ensure F1 mirrors real life as a racing driver. He told GQ of his role earlier this year: “I felt my job really has been to try to call BS. ‘This would never happen.’ ‘This is how it would be.’ ‘This is how it could happen.’ Just giving them advice about what racing is really about and what, as a racing fan, would appeal and what would not.”
