Brad Pitt opens up about sobriety journey: “Be better, step up”
Brad Pitt has opened up about his journey with alcohol addiction and sobriety in a new interview, admitting that he needed to “Be better, step up.”
The actor was appearing on a recent episode of the podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, the host of which he met when they were both attending meetings for Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
During the discussion, Shepard explained: “You don’t come into AA because everything’s working out fantastic,” to which Pitt responded: “No, that’s usually not the entry point.”
The Hollywood star then went on to discuss how he decided to get sober following his divorce from Angelina Jolie in 2016, noting that he has always been “a stubborn fuck,” but that, “when I’ve stepped in shit, I’m pretty good at taking responsibility for it and owning up to it.”
He added: “Now it’s a quest to what can I do with this and how can I right this and make sure it doesn’t happen again. Be better, step up.”
Pitt is currently starring in the high-octane racing drama F1, directed by Joseph Kosinski. However, at its premieres, he revealed plans for his future projects, including the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel, The Adventures of Cliff Booth.
With a script written by Quentin Tarantino, Pitt explained: “It’s an episode, not really a sequel, of the character from Once Upon a Time. He didn’t want to direct it at this point, so our mutual friend David Fincher stepped in, and we’re going to start filming in July. It should be really good fun.”
Elsewhere, he also said at F1’s Mexican premiere that he would be open to working with Tom Cruise again, as long as it doesn’t involve doing any stunts with planes.
F1 will be released in cinemas on June 27th.
