Boygenius reveal Dave Grohl was due to appear on ‘The Record’
Boygenius have revealed Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was set to appear on their debut album, The Record. However, according to the band, he “slept through” the planned recording session.
The first full-length offering from Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus arrived on March 31st, topping the chart in the United Kingdom. The trio have since spent the rest of the year touring the album, including huge shows at Forest Hills Stadium in New York and London’s Gunnersbury Park.
Now, in a new interview with NME, Bridgers explained how they managed to contact Grohl through a mutual friend and successfully persuaded him to appear on the LP. However, due to an honest mistake by Grohl, the collaboration didn’t come to fruition.
“We have a friend who knows him and toured with Foo Fighters. There was this missed connection where Dave was actually going to come to the studio and play on (The Record)”, the singer-songwriter explained to the publication.
Furthermore, Bridgers refrained from revealing which song on The Record that Grohl was earmarked to appear on, stating he “slept through” their agreed session, which resulted in them “didn’t end up meeting” with the former Nirvana drummer.
Seemingly, there is no bad blood between the two acts as Grohl appeared on-stage with Boygenius on October 31st at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. He joined the band on drums for ‘Satanist’ from their debut LP.
In a five-star review of The Record, Far Out wrote: “Living up to hype is one thing. Succeeding it is another. But The Record somehow goes beyond those metrics – it could very well be the best album that all three singers have made to date, and there’s a chance that it could be the best album that they ever make.”
