Boygenius team up with Gretsch for first signature guitar
Boygenius, the acclaimed supergroup formed of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, are receiving their first signature guitar from Gretsch.
The Boygenius Broadkaster Jr is part of a series honouring prominent musicians through products and stories, creating instruments inspired by each artist’s unique specifications. The trio join other legends already on Gretsch’s roster, including Chet Adkins, Billy Duffy, George Harrison, and Stephen Stills.
The new guitar follows on from a stellar 12 months for the trio. Last year, saw the group release The Rest EP in October and their debut album, The Record, which arrived in March.
In a five-star review, Far Out wrote of their first studio length effort: “Living up to hype is one thing. Succeeding it is another. But The Record somehow goes beyond those metrics – it could very well be the best album that all three singers have made to date, and there’s a chance that it could be the best album that they ever make.”
“I wish this had been my first guitar,” Boygenius said of their new Gretsch model. The Limited Edition guitar boasts Vintage-style Gretsch Bezels and Pickguard, along with Electromatic® Filter’Tron™ Pickups. It also features vintage-style Trapeze Tailpiece, custom boygenius Fingerboard Inlays, Nickel Head Badge with Boygenius signatures, and the band’s logo on the back of the headstock.
“At Gretsch, our unwavering commitment is to empower musicians at every level, fostering the expression of their unique voices across genres and among players of all backgrounds. Collaborating with boygenius on designing this guitar was a cool experience, working closely to ensure the specs matched their unique sound,” Jason Barnes, VP of Product at Gretsch, said of the collaboration.
He continued: “Our collaboration with them transcends mere music; it’s about kindling inspiration in countless fans, reaching new audiences, and embracing diverse genres. This collaboration stands as a testament to our brand’s voice, resonating with the shared passion for artistic expression and the belief that music has the power to inspire and elevate individuals on their creative paths.”
The limited edition instrument will retail at $699.
