Boygenius channel The Beatles with stylish performance on ‘Saturday Night Live’
Indie rock supergroup Boygenius delivered a stylish appearance on the Saturday Night Live stage, donning matching suits and ties, paying homage to both The Beatles and their recent magazine cover inspired by Nirvana.
The trio, consisting of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus, provided a captivating performance of their infectious track ‘Not Strong Enough’.
The band returned later in the show, once more donning matching black suits, for a dynamic rendition of their track ‘Satanist’, accompanied by additional musicians.
The performance, marked by its distinctive shifts in tone and signature style, effortlessly captivated the audience. As the song concluded, Baker energetically tossed her guitar across the stage, eliciting a thunderous roar of approval from the crowd.
Boygenius recently wrapped up their tour behind The Record, which included special shows featuring artists like Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Ethel Cain.
This wasn’t the first time that Grohl has interacted with the band; the musician has been a vocal fan of Bridgers for years. In 2021, Grohl defended Bridgers from a social media storm after she previously smashed a guitar on SNL, noting that Kurt Cobain smashed his instrument “every fucking night” and claiming that when people ask him, “Is rock and roll dead?” Bridgers is proof that it isn’t.
Grohl’s mother is also a fan, as Grohl shared with Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show: “She goes, ‘What did you think of that girl Phoebe?’ I said, ‘She’s got a beautiful voice; she can really sing’. And my mother’s like, ‘I loved it. I thought she was really great.’”
