Boston singer Tommy DeCarlo dead at 60

Tommy DeCarlo, the singer for the band Boston, has died aged 60 following a battle with cancer.

The sad news was announced by DeCarlo’s family on March 9th via his social media channels, as they wrote: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9th, 2026. After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end.”

The statement added: During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another. Rest in peace, Dad. With love, Annie, Talia & Tommy Jr,” sharing a picture of DeCarlo performing in a crowd.

DeCarlo joined Boston in 2007 as the replacement singer, following the death of the band’s original vocalist Brad Delp, who took his own life earlier that year.

The musician went on to feature on Boston’s sixth album, Love, Life and Hope, which was released in 2013, while also forming his own band, DeCarlo, in 2012. The band’s albums Lightning Strikes Twice and Dancing in the Moonlight were released in 2020 and 2022, respectively.

The extent of DeCarlo’s health problems were revealed in September last year when he suffered a brain bleed, and doctors discovered his cancer while performing an emergency craniotomy.

While recovering from the surgery, the singer suffered a second bleed on the brain and had been hospitalised for the past five months until the time of his passing.

This meant that DeCarlo’s planned shows had to be cancelled, which he said on social media at the time “was not an easy choice, as performing and sharing music with all of you around the world has been one of the greatest joys of my life. But right now, it’s important that I take the time I need to recover and get back to feeling my best, so that when I return to the stage, I can give you everything I’ve got.”

While DeCarlo was undergoing treatment, a GoFundMe was launched to help cover the costs of his medical bills. It raised over $56,000.
