For those of you with Bonnaroo tickets, the festival organisers have announced a make-up concert for September 4th, including Phoebe Bridgers, Brittany Howard and Sylvan Esso.
The 2021 edition of the iconic Tennesse festival was scheduled to start yesterday on September 2nd and finish on Sunday, September 5th. However, owing to the devasting effects of Hurricane Ida, the farm where the festival is situated has been flooded across its entire 700 acres.
In a quick turnaround, the new replacement event is set to be held this Saturday (September 4th), at the Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, with a capacity of roughly 6,800. The festival organisers have declared that proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test taken within 48 hours of attendance is required.
The original Tweet from the festival, announcing this year’s cancellation read: “We are absolutely heartbroken to announce that we must cancel Bonnaroo. While this weekend’s weather looks outstanding, currently Centeroo is waterlogged in many areas, the ground is incredibly saturated on our tollbooth paths, and the campgrounds are flooded to the point that we are unable to drive in or park vehicles safely.”
It continued: “We have done everything in our power to try to keep the show moving forward, but Mother Nature has dealt us a tremendous amount of rain over the past 24 hours, and we have run out of options to try to make the event happen safely and in a way that lives up to the Bonnaroo experience.”
Indie heroine du jour, Phoebe Bridgers, was added to the full line up earlier this year. Howard and Esso were first announced back in 2020 for last years bumper edition that never came to fruition owing to the Covid-19 pandemic that was ravaging the planet.
As was originally planned for 2020, the electronic duo, Sylvan Esso wish to present their WITH project, a ten-piece “dream team” of collaborators, reimagining a collection of their favourite songs.
