The night Bobby Brown had sex with a ghost: “Incredibly excited and terrified at the same time”
When you are responsible for inventing a new branch of music, have countless accolades to your name, and are considered one of the most influential artists on your side of the millennia, it’s hard to get away from the fact that you are simply going to have an exciting and extravagant life. Bobby Brown is no exception. As one of the pioneering voices of the new jack swing, he went on to have a promising career that was littered with screaming fans, greatest hits, and twisted tales. Some of which are more believable than others.
In his memoir, Brown is happy to recount different stories from his life as a musician, husband, and father. He talks fondly of the songs he wrote and the gigs he played, as well as his life with his wife Whitney Houston and daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. However, some stories in there stretch beyond the realm of possibilities.
It’s not unusual for rock stars to come jam-packed with outlandish stories that sit alongside their memories in the same way punctuation does a sentence. The talk of Hollywood parties, drugs, alcohol and sex usually have recognisable names and unrecognisable behaviour that we can’t get enough of. Brown might just have the most out-there story of them all, though, as he claims that one night, he had sex with a ghost.
It happened in the ‘90s. Brown had purchased a mansion in Atlanta with a man called Mike Thevis. For those who aren’t aware, Thevis was nicknamed the Scarface of porn. Notoriously tough to work with, he was involved heavily with the adult film industry and organised crime. Thevis was also a convicted murderer. When you consider all that, it’s no surprise Brown found it unsettling living with him.
“I sensed that a lot of evil shit had gone down in that house while Thevis lived there,” Brown recalled, “To this day I believe that house was haunted… We would often see white women walk down the hallway.”
Next, Brown talks about the fateful night when one of the ghoulish figures did much more than walk down a hallway. “One memorable night, one of the ghosts descended from the ceiling and had sex with me,” he said. Knowing how ridiculous it sounds, he quickly clarifies how aware he was of the situation. “After you stop laughing, I need you to hear what I’m saying because I’m not making this up. And let me add this: This was before I ever touched any drug besides weed and alcohol.”
Brown then goes into pretty graphic detail about the incident, “In my bedroom I had a big round bed with a mirrored ceiling looming above. I always slept in the nude, so one night I woke up to the sensation of a woman on top of me.”
He continues, “I looked up and in the mirrors I could actually see a white woman straddling me on the bed. The sensation felt exactly like sex – I could feel my penis inside of her and everything. It was not a dream; I was definitely awake while it was happening.”
After the incident, Brown was left with a harrowing memory that would cause others to doubt what happened, but he looks back on it with absolute certainty. He concludes, “All of a sudden, she was gone – leaving me alone and incredibly excited and terrified at the same time.”
