Bob Vylan celebrate Charlie Kirk assassination: “If you chat shit you get banged”
Punk duo Bob Vylan celebrated the assassination of Charlie Kirk on stage at their latest show in Amsterdam, deeming the activist a “piece of shit”.
The duo have been squarely in the limelight this summer after a controversial Glastonbury set, which called out the BBC for their “complicity in the genocide in Gaza.” The pair also led the crowd through a chant of “Death to the IDF”. Many officials, such as BBC Chief Tim Davie, have deemed the set “antisemitic”.
At their show in Amsterdam at the Paradiso Grote Zaal on September 13th, the band decided to make their own statement on the recent passing of conservative politician and Trump confidant Charlie Kirk. Kirk was shot in the neck at an event at Utah Valley University on September 10th. He leaves behind a wife and two kids.
During their set, the frontman addressed the crowd, stating, “I want to dedicate this next one to an absolute piece of shit of a human being.”
Making reference to Charlie Kirk’s transphobic ideologies, he then joked, “Pronouns was/were,” in reference to Kirk’s passing. At this, the crowd began cheering.
The band finished the tribute with the declaration, “Because if you chat shit, you will get Banged. Rest in peace Charlie Kirk, you piece of shit.” They launched into their track ‘CSGB’, which opens with the refrain, “Oh shit, God damn, Chat shit, get banged.”
Right-wing broadcaster Piers Morgan has already reacted to the footage. Taking to X, he shared the video, writing, “This is so disgusting, from Vylan and the crowd. Imagine so gleefully cheering the assassination of a man just for having opinions you don’t like?”
Elsewhere, Coldplay made reference to Charlie Kirk at their final show in London’s Wembley Stadium, opting for a statement very different to Bob Vylan’s. They encouraged the crowd to “send love,” stating: “You can send it to the families of people who’ve been going through terrible stuff. You can send it to Charlie Kirk’s family.”
