A new video for Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption Song’ has been shared to celebrate his 75th birthday
To mark what would’ve been the reggae icon, Bob Marley’s 75th birthday his estate have shared a brand new animated video for his iconic tune ‘Redemption Song’.
‘Redemption Song’ was featured at the end of Marley’s last studio album, 1980s, Uprising. His final record before he died from cancer aged 36 in 1981.
In charge of the animated video were French artists Octave Marsal and Theo De Gueltzl who took on illustrative duties for the new video. The illustrations expertly highlight the song’s poignant message.
Marley’s daughter, Cedella, told Billboard: “I think it came out amazing. We went through this six-month process with Octave and Theo going through it page by page, us looking at stuff and approving it all. When I watch it, it still gives me goosebumps.”
The track was also picked up by Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer for an inspirational cover. See the 10 best Bob Marley covers of all time here.
