The Black Crowes remember the time Bob Dylan gave The Rolling Stones the finger

With the announcement of the band’s reunion for their 30th spreading far and wide, The Black Crowes have found themselves signed up to a rather large round of promo. Their latest stop at the Howard Stern show offered up a brilliant story about Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones.

The Georgia band stopped off st the Stern show to discuss their recent reunion and the 30 years which have passed since their seminal debut record, Shake Your Money Maker, when Chris Robinson shared the funny story.

At a show in Montpellier in the South of France, Robinson recalls how the baffling moment Bob Dylan gave The Rolling Stones the finger. “I’ll always remember it because I met Bob that day and he’s ultimately my biggest hero,” he told Stern.

Robinson says that The Stones had asked Dylan to perform ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ on stage with them but things did not run smoothly. Ever the cantankerous gentleman when he sees fit, Dylan was not in the mood to play.

“They go around to the chorus and then they come up to Bob’s turn,” frontman Robinson revealed. “Bob goes to the mic and doesn’t sing anything. And you see them look around and they’re like, ‘Okay.’ Cos it’s like you missed a turn at a roundabout and you gotta go all the way back around. So they go all the way around again…and he just leans into the mic and turns away.”

Eventually, Dylan did sing a few garbled lines but soon exited the stage before the end of the song. Robinson said he left the stage with his eyes dead on The Rolling Stones. He proceeded to leave while shouting “fuck you” and giving the middle finger. Despite that Robinson said, “It was the best fucking concert I’ve ever seen in my life.”
