Hear Bob Dylan play ‘You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere’ for the first time in 14 years
In the usual live style of Bob Dylan, he broke out one of his rarest deep cuts, ‘You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere’, at his show in Washington over the weekend.
Dylan largely chooses against playing his big hits at his gigs, or if he does, he’ll perform them in a different way than the recorded version. Instead, he tends to follow the line of deep cuts and his famed Basement Tapes, which is exactly what he did on the opening nights of his latest summer tour.
Most surprisingly, he played the song ‘Baby, Won’t You Be My Baby’ for the first time since it was recorded in 1967 on the first night in Woodinville, Washington, before following it up with ‘You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere’ a night later in the same venue.
The legendary singer-songwriter hadn’t played the latter song in concert since 2012, thus marking the end of a 14-year hiatus for its inclusion on the setlist.
However, despite its relative rarity in the live realm, ‘You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere’ is still likely to be a song that many fans are familiar with, since it has been covered by many artists such as The Byrds and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in the past.
This moment seemingly marks the end of Dylan’s sprawling five-year Rough and Rowdy Ways tour, with his current line of North American shows being billed as Bob Dylan in Concert.
After his stint in Washington, he is next set to move on to Eugene, Oregon, on June 9th, before heading to California for a run of seven shows all across the state, starting from June 12th in Lincoln.
To this end, Dylan has a stacked summer of shows on his hands, having extended the tour with 13 extra dates in April.
That now sees his current stint on the road run all the way until August 1st, where he will conclude his current leg in Nashville, Tennessee.
However, along the way, there will be some seismic stops, as the rocker is set to return to the Forest Hills Stadium in New York for the first time in over ten years with a massive show on July 21st.
