As a former bandmate and collaborator, Bob Dylan paid tribute to his friend Tom Petty, during his Colorado performance last night, with his cover of the star’s 1991 song ‘Learning To Fly’. The footage of which can be seen below.

After learning the new of his friend’s tragic death Dylan issued a statement remembering his friend and former Travelling Wilbury. “It’s shocking, crushing news,” he said. “I thought the world of Tom. He was great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him.” Dylan and Petty played together in the rock supergroup that also featured Roy Orbison and George Harrison.

Dylan joins other artists who have paid homage to Petty live, including the National, Father John Misty, The War on Drugs, and R.E.M. Musicians such as Ezra Koenig, Sharon Van Etten, Ryan Adams, and more have also shared their remembrances of Petty and his work.
