Blur to release documentary and concert film chronicling their return

Following their celebratory 2023, which saw them play two sold-out shows and release The Ballad of Darren, Blur are set to release two films chronicling their return.

The Britpop icons have teamed up with Altitude, who will launch international sales for the two productions at the European Film Market, which coincides with the Berlin Film Festival in the German city. They hope the films will be released in British and Irish cinemas in 2024.

One is a documentary which charts their year, which saw them record The Ballad of Darren before taking it around the world before returning home to perform two historic shows at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Meanwhile, the second production is titled, Blur: Live At Wembley Stadium, and is a two-hour concert film which they captured at the aforementioned venue, where they performed in-front of 150,000 fans over the course of the weekend.

Toby L has directed both films while Josh Connolly was tasked with production duties. The two have previously collaborated together on projects for Liam Gallagher, Bastille, Arlo Parks, Foals and Olivia Rodrigo.

Last year, Blur fronman Damon Albarn gave French publication Les Inrockuptibles an evaluation of the year, describing their comeback as a “beautiful success”.

“It is time to wrap up this campaign. It’s too much for me. It was the right thing to do and an immense honour to play these songs again, spend time with these guys, make an album, blah-blah-blah,” he added.

“I’m not saying I won’t do it again, it was a beautiful success, but I’m not dwelling on the past,” Albarn concluded.

Despite Albarn’s comments, Blur are set to perform at Coachella in April, suggesting their comeback story hasn’t come to an end just yet.
