Blondshell speaks up about inappopriate fan behaviour on tour
Sabrina Mae Teitelbaum, better known as rock musician Blondshell, has taken to social media to speak out about inappropriate fan behaviour she has been experiencing on her ongoing tour.
The singer-songwriter recently performed a huge show alongside Fontaines DC, Kneecap and Amyl and the Sniffers at London’s Finsbury Park. Now, the ‘Sepsis’ singer is in the middle of a tour for her recently released album, If You Asked for a Picture.
She took to social media to share several uncomfortable experiences on tour. On her Instagram story, the star jokingly posted a picture of a shoes; above it, a text overlay read, “For me to sexualise myself? Fun, awesome, liberation etc. For you to sexualise me? Die.”
She then approached the topic with greater seriousness, writing, “Out of respect for myself I’m going to resist the urge to make this casual or funny! Playing these shows is my dream come true.”
She added, “Please keep that safe by respecting my body. I’ve experienced a lot of unwanted touching by men after shows lately in free moments or in passing.” She explained that this could look like a “waist touch” or a “back touch” after a “threatening invasion of space.”
She finished with the plea, “Just honestly, don’t do that. It doesn’t feel good, and it can ruin a gorgeous experience! Don’t make shit weird.”
Blondshell will continue her tour in Vienna on July 13th, before taking a few weeks off. She will kick things off again in the UK with a first show in Dublin on September 2nd.
In a four-star review of Blondshell’s second album, ‘If You Asked for a Picture’, Far Out wrote, “The kicker with If You Asked for a Picture comes within those less expected moments when the melodies or sounds are about to taper off, before they explode into beautiful soundscapes mirroring the ambiguity of life, love, loss, and heartbreak. These achievements feel like natural continuations of everything that made Blondshell great to begin with, with more emotional nuances to keep you hooked once again.”
