Blondshell calls out Alexander Zverev for domestic abuse allegations: “A massive fucking bummer”
Singer-songwriter Blondshell has called out tennis player Alexander Zverev, who continues to triumph in official tournaments despite the domestic violence allegations against him.
Zverev has officially made his way into the Wimbledon final, where he will face off against Jannik Sinner on July 12th in the British capital.
However, Zverev’s rise to the top has been clouded by domestic abuse allegations made against him.
Famously, in 2024, Zverev settled a case relating to domestic abuse charges brought by his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, Brenda Patea, out of court. In 2020, his former girlfriend, Olya Sharypova, also accused him of domestic abuse.
The Manhattan singer-songwriter Blondshell referenced these allegations as she took to her Instagram Story on July 11th to express her disgust regarding his continued involvement in Wimbledon.
“I love watching tennis,” she began, “And I know that no one here follows me for my sports opinions but I’m dropping into the convo to say what a massive fucking bummer it is to see men who have committed violence against multiple women make their way further and further into tournaments.”
Blondshell continued, “I don’t think it should be radical to say that there should be a ‘No Abusers in Sports’ rule. Why does this keep happening? And yes I’m talking about Alexander Zverev. Just my 2 cents”.
On a separate Instagram Story, the ‘Salad’ singer added, “Explain to me how you police trans folks for gender in sports and then turn around and allow men with multiple allegations to win buckets of money and titles. All in the same breath.”
Here, Blondshell is referring to the Supreme Court ruling that means only “biological females” can participate in women’s sports, and vice versa. In the UK, though it changes on a sport-by-sport basis, trans athletes are often barred from competing in the correct gender category.
Elsewhere, Blondshell is looking ahead to the release of her third studio album, Violins, set for a September 25th release via Partisan Records.
