Bloc Party announce personal new album, ‘Anatomy Of A Brief Romance’: “I had to tell the story, from start to finish”
Bloc Party have announced plans to release their new album, Anatomy of a Brief Romance.
The record, which is set to follow on from their last full release, Alpha Games in 2022, will mark the band’s seventh studio album, just over two decades on from their debut, Silent Alarm.
Despite being well-accustomed to this pattern of releases, the band say that this is undoubtedly their most personal and visceral album yet. “Every lyric you’re hearing on this record was something that actually happened to me. I had to tell the story, from start to finish,” said frontman Kele Okereke.
Set for release on September 11th, 2026, the lead single from Anatomy of a Brief Romance has already been shared in the form of ‘Coming on Strong’, which Okereke said was based on a “seductive feeling”.
He added: “It’s that feeling of, ‘I’ve had my eye on this person for a while, and then we’re finally in a situation where we can be something to each other’.”
Over the span of the album’s 14 tracks, the band are keen to emphasise “snapshots” of love, heartbreak, and relief, all revolving around one particular moment in their lives, the press release explained.
Ahead of the release of Anatomy of a Brief Relationship, Bloc Party are set to head to the US this summer to support Muse on their North American tour this July.
Then, after the album comes out, the indie veterans are also set to head out on their own headline UK tour alongside Interpol throughout November and December, where they will visit Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Brighton, Sheffield, Glasgow, and London. Tickets for all dates are available now.
Bloc Party’s seventh album, Anatomy of a Brief Relationship, is set for release on September 11th, 2026, via Contagious Ltd.
