Blackpink’s ‘Kill This Love’ becomes biggest music video debut in YouTube history

Korean pop group Blackpink are breaking yet more records as their new video for ‘Kill This Love’ becomes biggest music video debut in YouTube history.

In the first 24 hours of being live on the streaming platform the video had been viewed 56.7 million times. The speed in which the video amassed that volume of views mean that it overtakes Ariana Grande who previously held number on spot with 55.4 million views for ‘Thank U, Next’.

Blackpink’s success didn’t slow down after 24 hours and continued to dominate. Published on April 4th, ‘Kill This Love’ became the fastest music video to 100 million views on the streaming platform, according to data obtained by Billboard. The video reached the milestone in under three days.

The band, who are also the first and only K-pop girl group to enter and top Billboard‘s Emerging Artists chart, will also make history by becoming the first k-pop girl group to play the ever-expanding California festival Coachella.

Made up of members Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rose, Blackpink are the latest popular outfit emerging from Korea as the music industry attempts to capitalise on the boom of interest in the music.

As their planned appearance at Coachella takes them to the West Coast, BlackPink have also planned out a North American tour which will see them perform in Los Angeles, Chicago, Hamilton, Newark, Atlanta and Fort Worth.

Following their shows in America, the band will arrive in the UK to play Manchester Arena and London’s SSE Arena before heading off to mainland Europe to play a couple more dates.
