Given the amount of incredibly eclectic mixture of work Icelandic pop star Björk has created throughout her prolific career, it should come as little surprise that she has once again attached herself to something extraordinary.
Teaming up with the boutique Manhattan hotel Sister City, Björk has created a new score using AI technology from Microsoft to combine samples from her favourite choral arrangements from her archive.
“An architectural structure in downtown manhattan offered me the hand in an AI tango and I accepted the call, I am alert with curiosity awaiting the results,” Björk said in a statement. “I offered them my choir archives, written over 17 years that will float through the pinball of artificial intelligence by the grid of bird migrations, clouds, aeroplanes and that voluptuous thing called barometer!
“Hudson Valley happens to be one of the most bird-trafficked deltas on the planet, I know this of my own experience…. hope you will enjoy this! Warmth Björk.”
Björk started working on the project last year, teaming up with director Thorgerdur Ingólfsdóttir and the Hamrahlid Choir who stayed at Sister City Hotel last year to rehearse.
