Björk confirms new album set to arrive in 2027
Björk has confirmed that she is set to release a new album in 2027, days after announcing that she is also set to host a rave in her home country of Iceland.
The rave, named Echolalia, is set to take place on August 12th in Víðistaðatún, Hafnarfjörður, featuring a DJ set from Björk alongside special guests Arca, Sideproject, Ronja Jóhannsdóttir, and more still to be announced.
However, a few days after announcing the news, the musician took to social media on April 13th to clarify a few details about the event, and douse rumours that Echolalia would be the name of her next album.
She wrote: “I saw all your comments and wanted to massage out a potential misunderstanding that has been floating around: Echolalia is not the title of my next album . It is an umbrella-exhibition-name.”
Björk went on to clarify that she will be sharing some new music at the rave, combining visuals and textiles into the planned experience.
However, the singer added: “But I want to be sincere with my fans (who are all of course delicious music-nerds) about the musical side of things: the new music is a version of a song. The final version will be on the new album in 2027.”
Björk subsequently told her fans: “Before you buy your tickets, I want to make sure that you know that I will not be sharing the final instrumentation of my next album until next year.”
The singer released her most recent album, Fossora, back in 2022, whose songs ‘Ancestress’ and ‘Sorrowful Soil’ she said she “always wanted” to place in a “spatial situation”, hence inspiring the Echolalia event.
However, she also recently delighted fans by making a surprise appearance at the Brit Awards in Manchester on February 28th, performing alongside Rosalía to give a live rendition of their collaborative track, ‘Berghain’.
