Björk is working on a new album
Björk appears to have a new album in the works.
It was recently announced via social media that the talented hit-maker will be the focus of an exhibition at the National Gallery of Iceland. The post about the project dropped a major hint about her upcoming plans.
Björk and artist James Merry will take over the entire gallery during the Reykjavik Arts Festival, which will open on May 30th, 2026.
Björk’s exhibition, titled Echolalia, will consist of three “immersive installations”. Two of these already have names: ‘Ancestress’ and ‘Sorrowful Soil’. Fans will recall that these titles are taken from songs on her 2022 album, Fossora.
The third is currently untitled and promises to be “a new work based on music from her forthcoming album, currently in development”.
All three installations will each give the public “a rare opportunity to engage intimately with works of phenomenal visual, aural and emotional depth”.
The organisers have shared more information about this elsewhere, stating, “The first hall will feature a new installation with music that emerges from Björk’s upcoming album. This invites guests to explore the next chapter in the artist’s research, where transformation and collaboration are at the core.”
In a four-star review of her last album, Fossora, Far Out observed, “Almost 30 years have gone by since Björk released her debut album, yet she doesn’t show any sign of slowing down. Fossora only emphasises Björk’s enduring legacy and sheer talent for continuously making innovative creations.”
Björk’s most recent release was a collaboration with Rosalía and Yves Tumor on the operatic, cinematic track ‘Berghain’, named after the iconic club in Berlin.
The artist remains committed to activism throughout her work; she recently joined the ‘No Music For Genocide’ boycott, meaning that her back catalogues are now unavailable on streaming services in Israel.
