Billy Joel shares trailer for documentary ‘And So It Goes’

A new, star-studded trailer for the HBO Max Billy Joel documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes has been released.

Joel’s voice-over begins the trailer, stating, “Sometimes it’s alien to me, this guy Billy Joel. I don’t know who that is or what that is.” Footage of Joel signing his classic, ‘Piano Man,’ is spliced between personal admissions.

He continues, “I’m reminded of it when I go walk on the street,” before a shot of present-day Joel throws up his hands and says, “Oh right, I’m that guy!”

The documentary appears to stretch all the way back to Joel’s childhood, as he admits, ” My own history as a musician started with me hearing classic music.” He makes the self-aggrandising claim a little while later that “‘Uptown Girl,’ it could’ve been a Mozart piece.”

Many famous faces weigh in on Joel’s story. Beatles legend Paul McCartney was interviewed for the documentary: in the trailer, he confesses, “When I first heard Billy, it was like, “Wait a minute, Who’s this?” Born in the USA singer Bruce Springsteen also adds, “Billy’s melodies are better than mine.”

‘The Piano Man’ also reflects on a near-fatal motorcycle accident in 1982 that left him with a broken leg, arm and wrist. “I learned that life is a fight,” he mused.

The documentary release comes at a tragic time in Joel’s career; he recently missed the premiere of the project, which opened the Tribeca Film Festival on June 4th in New York. The premiere arrived merely weeks after Joel shared that he’d been diagnosed with the brain disorder, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). As a result of his health issues, all of his future live commitments have been cancelled.

The two parts of And So It Goes will stream on July 18th and July 25th in the US on HBO Max.
