Billy Joel announces comeback single ‘Turn The Lights Back On’

Billy Joel has revealed details of his long-awaited return. On February 1st, the singer-songwriter will release his brand new track, ‘Turn The Lights Back On’, marking his first single since 2007 and only his second since 1993.

The new release will be released via Columbia Records and is set to be readily available on all streaming platforms. Fans will also have the chance to own a physical copy of the song as it will also be shared on a limited-edition 7” vinyl.

‘Turn The Lights Back On’ isn’t a solo venture, as Joel worked on it with Grammy-nominated songwriter Freddy Wexler, who produced the song. Additionally, his creative team included Wayne Hector and Arthur Bacon, who have previously worked with pop juggernauts such as One Direction and Nicki Minaj.

This announcement won’t come as a complete surprise to some fans, as Joel previously began to tease new music through his TikTok account last month. In one video, he said on-stage, “I have good news, I have bad news, I’ll give you the bad news first: we don’t have anything new to play for you. The good news is you don’t have to sit through something you have no idea what it is. Although… we got a little something we’re working on you might hear sometime.”

Following the announcement, Joel has since completely changed his social media layout to tease the release of the new song. On Spotify, his new canvas reads, “Did I wait too long…” which is believed to be a lyric from the upcoming single.

The release of ‘Turn The Lights Back On’ comes ahead of Joel’s plans to play various shows worldwide over the summer months. In the United Kingdom, he will be perform a sole stadium gig in Cardiff at the Principality and in the United States, he’s set to embark upon a co-headline with Stevie Nicks and Sting.
