Billie Eilish teases “special” collaboration with James Cameron for upcoming shows
At the first of a four-night run at Manchester’s Co-Op Live arena, Billie Eilish announced a special collaboration with Avatar filmmaker James Cameron.
The ‘Wildflower’ singer is currently on her Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour, supporting her third studio album. After playing six nights at London’s O2 arena, Eilish kicked things off in Manchester with a special announcement.
Eilish surprised the 23,500 fans singing ardently along to her tunes by teasing, “So, you may have noticed there’s more cameras than usual up here. Basically, I can’t say much about it, but I’m working on something very, very special with somebody named James Cameron, and it’s going to be in 3D.”
She added, “So take that as you will and these four shows here in Manchester, you and me are part of a thing that I am making with him.”
She also noted that the filmmaker behind the 1997 classic Titanic would be “in this audience somewhere.” Logistically, “I’ll probably be wearing this exact outfit for like four days,” Eilish laughed.
Eilish opened the show with ‘Chihiro’, a song from her latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. She ran through hits such as ‘bad guy’ and ‘bury a friend’, before finishing with a three-song run that consisted of Barbie hit ‘What Was I Made For?’, ‘Happier Than Ever’ during which she played electric guitar, and ‘Birds of a Feather’.
Recently, Cameron hit the headlines as he criticised Christoper Nolan’s latest blockbuster, Oppenheimer. He mused, “It’s interesting what [Nolan] stayed away from. Look, I love the filmmaking, but I did feel that it was a bit of a moral cop out. Because it’s not like Oppenheimer didn’t know the effects.”
In a four-star review of her 2024 offering, Far Out wrote, “The record is never less than great. This is mostly thanks to a performer at the top of her game, proving herself to be one of the world’s finest and most earnest vocalists, and a songwriter firmly finding her feet, unafraid to be hearteningly honest.”
